Chinese electric vehicle maker XPeng Inc. (NYSE:XPEV) reportedly apologized after an app in its in-car system asked a user to confirm their identity via facial recognition using an external camera outside the car.

What Happened: The user took to Weibo saying they had to point their face to the camera outside the car in a weird position for facial recognition, reported CnEVPost.

Responding to the report, XPeng said this happened because the third-party app triggered a risk control policy when the user logged in, requiring facial recognition. Apologizing for the experience, XPeng removed the third-party app, the report added.

Though neither of the two parties involved named the app, it is allegedly Dianping, a food ordering app, the report said, citing other media reports.

XPeng did not immediately respond to Benzinga‘s request for comment.

In February this year, XPeng reported 6,010 vehicle deliveries, a 3.9% fall from the 6,552 vehicles it sold in the corresponding month last year.

XPeng’s deliveries has been on a constant decline since June last year. However, early last month, the company’s G9 SUV and P7 sedan made their debut in Europe.
