Why Is Apple’s Tech Support Reportedly Keeping Quiet About iPhone 12 Radiation?

Amidst concerns raised by the French government regarding the iPhone 12's radiation levels, Apple's tech support staff has been instructed not to provide information or acknowledge the issue.

Amidst concerns about the iPhone 12’s radiation levels in France, Apple Inc.’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) tech support staff has been reportedly asked to refrain from offering information.

What Happened: The controversy began when the French government raised alarm bells earlier this week, saying that the iPhone 12 exceeds established standards for electromagnetic radiation.

This assertion led to a formal request to halt iPhone 12 sales in France unless Cupertino can rectify the issue within two weeks through a software update.

The Tim Cook-led company swiftly responded, stating that it would work with France to prove that the iPhone 12 complies with regulatory limits.

The company provided both in-house and third-party lab testing results in an effort to demonstrate the product’s adherence to the legal radiation range.

However, what has drawn significant attention is Apple’s advisory to its tech support staff.

When customers inquire about the radiation concerns or the French government’s stance, employees are instructed not to volunteer information and respond by saying they “don’t have anything to share,” reported Bloomberg.

Even when customers ask about the phone’s safety, the staff members are told to say that Apple products undergo rigorous testing to ensure their safety.

Apple did not immediately respond to Benzinga’s request for comments.

Meanwhile, in response to France’s concerns, other EU countries, including Belgium and Germany, have also started assessing the iPhone 12’s radiation levels, indicating that this issue may have broader implications.

Why It’s Important: Apple had already begun phasing out the iPhone 12, after the launch of the iPhone 15 lineup. Having said that, more than 100 million units of iPhone 12 were sold within its first seven months on the market, the report noted, citing Counterpoint Research.
