Amazon.Com, Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) aggressively earmarked millions in training an ambitious large language model (LLMs), intensifying rivalry with Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ: MSFT) backed OpenAI and Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ: GOOG) (NASDAQ: GOOGL).
The model, dubbed “Olympus,” has 2 trillion parameters. Reportedly, OpenAI’s GPT-4 models have one trillion parameters.

Former Alexa head Rohit Prasad is helming Amazon’s AI initiative. Prasad brought researchers who had been working on Alexa AI and the Amazon science team together to work on training models, Reuters reports.
Amazon has already trained smaller models such as Titan. It has also collaborated with AI model startups like Anthropic and AI21 Labs, offering them to Amazon Web Services (AWS) users, according to Reuters.
Amazon looks to tap its homegrown models to make its offerings more attractive on AWS.
In its April earnings call, Amazon voiced ramping up investment in LLMs and generative AI while cutting back on fulfillment and transportation in its retail business.
Meanwhile, Amazon kicked off its Black Friday event earlier than 2022 on November 17, doling out deep discounts on a wide range of products.
From November 17 to November 27, customers can indulge in significant discounts on various items such as electronics, toys, home goods, clothing, beauty products, and Amazon devices.
