Volkswagen Kick Starts Autonomous Driving Test Program In US

Volkswagen AG (OTC: VWAGY) is starting its first 

Volkswagen AG (OTC:VWAGY) is starting its first autonomous vehicle test program in Austin in July 2023. The company will kick off its program with a batch of 10 all-electric ID Buzz vehicles.

The company partnered with technology company Mobileye Global Inc. (NASDAQ:MBLY) to aid the development.

The Buzz vehicles include cameras, radar, and lidar technology. All cars will be staffed with supervising human drivers throughout this initial test phase. The company expects a commercial launch of autonomous driving vehicles in Austin by 2026.

Over the next three years, Volkswagen plans to expand its test fleet in Austin and at least four more American cities.

“Expanding Volkswagen Group’s global autonomous driving vehicle program to the United States marks an important milestone for us,” said Pablo Di Si, President and CEO of Volkswagen Group of America. 

“In the future, we will tap into rising demand for new mobility services, and with our iconic ID.”

Price Action: VWAGY shares are trading lower by 2.55% to $16.44 on the last check Thursday.
