Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:MSFT) initiated discounted pricing for the Xbox Series X during the holiday season, following recent markdowns by retailers such as Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) and Target Corp (NYSE: TGT).
According to IGN, Walmart and Target previously offered the console at $349, a $150 reduction from the retail price, surpassing Black Friday deals.

Responding to this, Microsoft unveiled a discount, setting the Xbox Series X at $399, a $100 saving and a slight increase from its earlier Black Friday reduction.
This announcement, shared on Xbox’s official social media, outstripped the previous discounts, varying between $100 and $150 depending on the retailer.

In addition to the console, retailers are offering other Xbox-related deals, such as Xbox Wireless Controllers for $45 at Walmart and an Xbox Elite Series 2 Core Controller for $106.99 at Target.
While Microsoft has not specified the duration of this $399 offer, it’s expected to remain available throughout the remainder of 2023 and is exclusive to the U.S..
Despite acknowledging challenges in competing with Sony’s PlayStation, Microsoft remains committed to its Xbox console business. It aims to release more exclusive titles from its first-party studios and intends to introduce mid-generation refreshes for both the Xbox Series X and S in 2024.
Meanwhile, Sony Group Corp.’s (NYSE:SONY) PS5 and Nintendo ADR‘s (OTC:NTDOY) Nintendo Switch consoles also have holiday deals, including a “slim” PS5 model at $499 and a Switch OLED Model: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Bundle for $349.
