The U.S. auto safety regulator has started an investigation into the remedy offered by EV giant Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) for the recall of over 2 million vehicles it issued in December.
Tesla in December recalled 2.03 million vehicles equipped with all versions of Autosteer after deeming the feature’s controls to be insufficient to prevent misuse.
What Happened: The EV maker then said it would resolve the issue with a software update. However, despite deploying the remedy, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Office of Defects Investigation has identified concerns.
These concerns are due to post-remedy crash events and the results of the preliminary tests conducted by the agency of these remedied vehicles, it said.
Hence, the agency the agency has commenced a “recall query investigation,” it said.
