The funds will support the development of a sustainable ecosystem for free, open-source projects and protocols. Half of the donation will be allocated to the growing Nostr ecosystem, according to a statement issued Thursday.

OpenSats aims to enhance its efforts and streamline operations with funding.

The organization emphasized the importance of free software and open protocols in fostering a free and prosperous society.

Dorsey, who co-founded Twitter and Square, donated $3 million through the #StartSmall initiative to support BUILD.org‘s initiatives, an educational service focused on advancing racial equity through youth entrepreneurship.

He also donated to Pivotal, touted as the only nonprofit in Silicon Valley focused exclusively on meeting the educational and career needs of foster youth.
