  • Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:MSFT) developer platform GitHub laid off its entire engineering team in India virtually.
  • Github has eliminated over 100 jobs in the South Asian market, TechCrunch reports citing familiar sources.
  • GitHub notified the employees about the job cut on Tuesday.

  • Gergely Orosz, a former software engineer who runs a popular newsletter, Pragmatic Engineer, first tweeted about the downsizing.
  • A GitHub spokesperson told TechCrunch that the layoff is part of its streamlining effort disclosed in February. 
  • GitHub said earlier that it would cut roughly 10% of its workforce by the quarter ending in March.
  • In January, Microsoft confirmed it is reducing its headcount by roughly 10,000 employees, equating to 4% – 5% of the total headcount.
  • Price Action: MSFT shares traded lower by 0.35% at $275.41 premarket on the last check Tuesday.
