Slightly over a year following Gov. Dan McKee's decision to appoint three experts to the Cannabis Control Commission with a task to regulate, license and control the medical and recreational cannabis markets in Rhode Island, the agency is about to get a leader.
One of Oklahoma's top cannabis regulators Michelle Reddish is nominated by Gov. McKee to become Rhode Island's first cannabis administrator, reported Oklahoma Voice.In the meantime, nearly a dozen either cannabis companies or businesses related to the plant saw board changes recently.
These days, smaller players in the alcohol industry are opting to venture into cannabis. As highlighted in a recent story by Green Market Report's John Schroyer, Beer World located in Greene County, upstate New York, is eyeing an opportunity to take over a legal dispensary permit. The beer distributor intends to set up a cannabis shop in a building where its beer store is located. According to the Times Union, stores won't be sharing the same entrance though, and will be run separately. In the meantime, cannabis sales in North America seem to be thriving, if we factor in the number of new stores that are kicking off sales.

The first licensed adult-use cannabis dispensary and delivery service in New York, Housing Works Cannabis Co, has celebrated a successful first year of operations. The dispensary, which reported selling roughly $12m worth of marijuana during its first six months, curated a menu of over 1,000 SKUs across 124 brands. This resulted in total sales of $24m in the company's first year. While New York could potentially house up to 600 stores based on California's density, Pablo Zuanic of Zuanic & Associates suggested that the figure could be over 3,600 if it follows Colorado's model. Other cannabis stores have opened in the US and Canada recently. Trulieve Cannabis opened two new medical dispensaries in Florida, while Ascend Wellness Holdings opened a dispensary in Ohio. Canadian retailer High Tide also opened three new Canna Cabana stores in Canada.
